Spring Clubfitting Highlights

We are well into the club fitting season and I just wanted to highlight the clubs that stood out so far this spring.

Drivers:
Often times the goal in a driver fitting is to reduce spin. Too much spin on a drive can rob you of distance and make hitting the tee ball very frustrating. Three of the best performers this year have been the Ping G-30 LS, the Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 Double Diamond, and the TaylorMade R15.

Fairway & Hybrid:
In the fairway and hybrid category, it is the same song…if you are able to reduce a high spinning shot then your distance will increase. The Titleist 915 fairway and hybrids feature two models; the higher launching H and the smaller profile lower flying HD. Surprisingly, the TaylorMade Aeroburner fairway and hybrid have also stood out during fittings.

Irons:
As far as technology goes, one of the biggest jumps in technology has been in the design of the face in irons. The introduction of faster irons faces started a few years back…but the faster ball speeds were usually only generated on centered hits. This year’s iron line-up features several models that are providing higher ball speeds, even on those off center hits. The Callaway XR, TaylorMade RSi, Mizuno 850, and Cobra Fly-Z all should be on your list to try if you are in the market for new irons.

Wedges:
Not much of a contest in this category…Titleist Vokey wedges win by a wide margin, offering numerous bounce and grind options to fit your swing and turf conditions. Three other contenders are the Callaway Mack Daddy, Ping Glide, and Mizuno T5 wedges. All are good options…but the key for wedges is gapping, bounce, and lie angle.

Putters:
In the world of putters, we are seeing a great response from the Odyssey Works and Ping Cadence. The Works line features the Fusion RX insert that blends the iconic White Hot and Metal X inserts. The Cadence uses different face weight inserts to fit the individual stroke and feel preference.

A great quote from Hunter Mahan earlier this spring…”You can spend a lot of money on golf equipment, but if it is not fit for your game it is worthless.” We encourage you to come in and let us help you find the correct equipment for your game.
